Chopper's Brexit Podcast broadcast from SCD!

Seven days before Brexit students from ¿ìèÊÓƵ participated in the Telegraph’s weekly podcast ‘Choppers Brexit Broadcast’. The podcast, hosted by Chief Political Correspondent and Assistant Editor of The Daily Telegraph, Christopher Hope regularly has over 25,0000 listeners.

In this special episode, Mr Hope interviewed former local Conservative politician, David Gauke. Mr Gauke answered various questions on his career as a long-standing member of parliament and his recent resignation from the Conservative party after 29 years. Upon being asked to give the students a final bit of advice, Mr Gauke stated “Get up and give it a go as you just never know”, referring to his recent stand as an Independent party member in the general election and how this had impacted him personally.

The second half of the Podcast turned the table and Mr Gauke interviewed Mr Hope on being an acclaimed journalist having written for the Telegraph for over 16 years. Mr Hope spoke to the students on his passion and enthusiasm for journalism stating “I want to hold the government to account, representing the people I write for and continue to challenge my readers with new ideas”.

The Podcast finished with a Q&A session; sixth form students having the opportunity to participate by asking questions which were answered live.

Headteacher, Mr Sutherland, commented “Today represented a unique opportunity for the students at St Clements Danes School to hear from two highly influential and well-informed individuals who, in their own ways, have been at the forefront of arguably the biggest political decisions for generations. To be able to hear directly from them and speak to them is something I know the students appreciated. I am extremely grateful for David and Christopher for giving up their time and allowing the students an insight into the politics of the day.”

Charities Week 2025

The halls of ¿ìèÊÓƵ have been buzzing with holiday cheer this week as the annual Charities Week is officially in full swing. As the Autumn Term draws to a close, pupils and staff have united to raise vital funds for three incredible causes: Endometriosis UK, Spread a Smile, and Herts Young ¿ìèÊÓƵless. The school is alive with the spirit of giving, driven by a jam packed ‘Advent’ schedule designed to get everyone involved in the fundraising efforts. This year’s itinerary has been filled with exciting activities, ranging from pupil led lessons and a "Mystery Bucket" challenge to the competitive excitement of the "Elf Auction" and various competitions. Pupils have also enjoyed the classic "Sponge the Teacher" event and a visit to Santa’s Grotto, ensuring the festive atmosphere is matched only by the community’s generosity. Beyond the classroom activities, pupils have been sharing the festive spirit with the wider community. On 18th December, the SCD Senior Choir paid a special visit to Chorleywood Manor Care ¿ìèÊÓƵ. The residents were treated to a beautiful selection of Christmas carols, featuring performances by members of the Chamber Choir, Evensong Choir, and the Barbershop Choir. Year 12 pupils Immy and Chrissie noted that "it was a very joyful occasion and it was lovely to see the residents joining in and looking so happy." The success of such a busy week relies heavily on pupil leadership, and the school extends a massive vote of thanks to Year 13 for their incredible hard work and dedication. Their enthusiasm have been the driving force behind this week's fundraising efforts. The week is set to conclude on Friday with the Grand Finale: the highly anticipated Sixth Form Revue, promising a spectacular end to a week of community, charity and celebration.
