US Students Shine in UK Football Exchange: A 10-Day Adventure of Sport, Culture, and Friendship

From 12th - 22nd July, a group of excited students from the United States participated in a unique football exchange programme hosted by the school. Over 10 days, these budding athletes experienced intensive football training, explored iconic UK stadiums, and immersed themselves in British culture.

The trip kicked off with training sessions at St Clement Danes' facilities, followed by visits to the legendary stadiums of Wembley, Arsenal, and Tottenham. The students honed their football skills and gained deeper insights into the sport, preparing for a series of friendly matches against local teams. Along the way, they had the opportunity to explore London's top attractions and shopping spots.

One of the standout elements of the exchange was the hospitality extended by staff and students' host families, who opened their homes and hearts to the visiting players. The students not only deepened their connection with their sport but also built lifelong bonds and gained an ¿ìèÊÓƵing of British family life.

Key fixtures during the exchange included pre-season friendlies for both the boys' and girls' teams. Below is a summary of the matches and results:

    Girls

    • Year 10/11 SCD - 4-4 draw
    • Chesham Utd U18  - 3-1 win
    • Chorleywood U17 - 7-1win
    • Arsenal 'all stars' - 7-2 loss

    Boys

    • Berkhamstead U18 - 5-0 loss
    • Year 12/13 SCD - 5-0 loss
    • Chorleywood U17 - 4-3 win

In addition to the football matches, students enjoyed sightseeing tours, a Thames River cruise, and even a social cricket match between US coaches and parents. Their UK journey concluded with a thrilling game between QPR and Tottenham Hotspur at Loftus Road.

Looking ahead, the our students are already planning their next adventure, a Summer 2024 trip to Maine, where they will reunite with their US teammates and experience football in a new environment.

This football exchange programme offered not just a sporting experience, but also a cultural exchange that left a lasting impact on all participants.

    Charities Week 2025

The halls of ¿ìèÊÓƵ have been buzzing with holiday cheer this week as the annual Charities Week is officially in full swing. As the Autumn Term draws to a close, pupils and staff have united to raise vital funds for three incredible causes: Endometriosis UK, Spread a Smile, and Herts Young ¿ìèÊÓƵless. The school is alive with the spirit of giving, driven by a jam packed ‘Advent’ schedule designed to get everyone involved in the fundraising efforts. This year’s itinerary has been filled with exciting activities, ranging from pupil led lessons and a "Mystery Bucket" challenge to the competitive excitement of the "Elf Auction" and various competitions. Pupils have also enjoyed the classic "Sponge the Teacher" event and a visit to Santa’s Grotto, ensuring the festive atmosphere is matched only by the community’s generosity. Beyond the classroom activities, pupils have been sharing the festive spirit with the wider community. On 18th December, the SCD Senior Choir paid a special visit to Chorleywood Manor Care ¿ìèÊÓƵ. The residents were treated to a beautiful selection of Christmas carols, featuring performances by members of the Chamber Choir, Evensong Choir, and the Barbershop Choir. Year 12 pupils Immy and Chrissie noted that "it was a very joyful occasion and it was lovely to see the residents joining in and looking so happy." The success of such a busy week relies heavily on pupil leadership, and the school extends a massive vote of thanks to Year 13 for their incredible hard work and dedication. Their enthusiasm have been the driving force behind this week's fundraising efforts. The week is set to conclude on Friday with the Grand Finale: the highly anticipated Sixth Form Revue, promising a spectacular end to a week of community, charity and celebration.
