Fantastic result-2nd place for SCD in regional UK Rock Challenge!

On Monday 5th February, students travelled to Stevenage to compete with nine other schools in the regional UK Rock Challenge. The students gave an outstanding performance, which resulted in the team achieving a fantastic second place in the challenge.

To compete in the challenge, the team, (including performers, stage crew and support crew), decided on a theme and then created the choreography for their dance-drama performance.  The team chose Twisted Fairy Tales as their theme, and selected and recorded the medley of music for their soundtrack,  and also created their sets and costumes.

The challenge is run by BYBF (Be Your Best Foundation). The charity is responsible for fundraising and producing the challenge and aims to encourage young people to lead healthy lifestyles without the need for alcohol, tobacco and other harmful substances.

Since the event started in 1996, the charity has run more than 4,300 Rock Challenge and Rock performances involving around 320,000 young people. The events have been enjoyed by over half a million audience members during this period.

As well as achieving overall 2nd place, the school was successful in winning a huge number of awards at the evening:

Ansvar Insurance Award of Excellence for Soundtrack

Hertfordshire Police Award of Excellence for Performance Skill

Hertfordshire Police Award of Excellence for Entertainment

Janome Award of Excellence for Costuming Character

Hertfordshire Police Award of Excellence for Concept

The Follett Trust Award of Excellence for Stage Crew

Stage Coach Award of Excellence for Stage Use

Project Pictogram Award of Excellence for Drama

Rock Challenge Award for Achievement in Drug Awareness

Many congratulations and well done to the team on this fantastic success!

Charities Week 2025

The halls of ¿ìèÊÓƵ have been buzzing with holiday cheer this week as the annual Charities Week is officially in full swing. As the Autumn Term draws to a close, pupils and staff have united to raise vital funds for three incredible causes: Endometriosis UK, Spread a Smile, and Herts Young ¿ìèÊÓƵless. The school is alive with the spirit of giving, driven by a jam packed ‘Advent’ schedule designed to get everyone involved in the fundraising efforts. This year’s itinerary has been filled with exciting activities, ranging from pupil led lessons and a "Mystery Bucket" challenge to the competitive excitement of the "Elf Auction" and various competitions. Pupils have also enjoyed the classic "Sponge the Teacher" event and a visit to Santa’s Grotto, ensuring the festive atmosphere is matched only by the community’s generosity. Beyond the classroom activities, pupils have been sharing the festive spirit with the wider community. On 18th December, the SCD Senior Choir paid a special visit to Chorleywood Manor Care ¿ìèÊÓƵ. The residents were treated to a beautiful selection of Christmas carols, featuring performances by members of the Chamber Choir, Evensong Choir, and the Barbershop Choir. Year 12 pupils Immy and Chrissie noted that "it was a very joyful occasion and it was lovely to see the residents joining in and looking so happy." The success of such a busy week relies heavily on pupil leadership, and the school extends a massive vote of thanks to Year 13 for their incredible hard work and dedication. Their enthusiasm have been the driving force behind this week's fundraising efforts. The week is set to conclude on Friday with the Grand Finale: the highly anticipated Sixth Form Revue, promising a spectacular end to a week of community, charity and celebration.
